Why Was Andrew Johnson Impeached

I was driving home last night from a Columbus Blue Jackets, Boston Bruins hockey game when out of the blue(or black since it was around 10 pm) when it hit me. The impeachment charges against Donald Trump rival those of Andrew Johnson. I don't know why I think a great deal when driving but it seems to work for me.

Anyway, Johnson was Lincoln's vice-president. He was a senator from the southern state of Tennessee and a Democrat. He was also an abolitionist. Lincoln thought it would be a great idea for national unity to bring in a southerner. At the time, during the war, Republicans dominated the congress. When Lincoln was assassinated they saw the opportunity to not only control the senate but also the country.

There were in Lincoln's cabinet a couple of fellas who detested Johnson, one of them being Sec. of War, Edwin Stanton. The Radical Republicans knew Johnson wanted him fired so in 1867 they helped get a law passed reading, " A president cannot fire a cabinet member when the congress is not in session." Clever, huh?

Johnson proceeded with the firing and the Republicans brought impeachment charges against Johnson. And that's what happens when you go against Pelosi----er, the party in power.

Johnson avoided removal from office by one Senate vote but did resign from the presidency.

I promise you this. Donald J. Trump will not, under any circumstances, resign.

The current Democrats are charging Trump with violations not mentioned in the Constitution. They've made them up.
