There's this long time friend of mine who lives in Overland Park, Kansas. Around 1990 his dad came down with a case of the shingles. At the time I only thought shingles went on garage roofs but my buddy told me his dad was in agony. Anyone who had chicken pox as a kid was susceptible to the shingles later in life. Supposedly, the age of sixty is when we should start thinking about a vaccine. I've been putting it off for awhile. Heck, except for my friend's dad, I have personally never known anyone with the ailment. Another friend did tell me that Magic Johnson had the shingles but I think he's confused with that other virus---if ya' know what I mean.
The rumor on the street is that a shingles shot is sort of expensive. I visited my local Walgreen's three days ago and inquired about the cost. The lady wasn't sure but said without Medicare it'd run me a smooth $220. Crimminy, that's a tank of gas. Well, I got the scrip and made the trip to my pharmacy today. With insurance it came to $182.00. What's a guy to do so I went ahead and got pricked. After that task was completed the pharmacist gave me a brochure telling me that this shot is only 50% favorable for never getting the virus. Are you kidding me? So, the next time I see some Waldo walking down the street it's either him or me. I don't like the odds.
