Human Actions Can Be Disgusting

I'm one of the most sensitive people I've come across. To be honest I'm not too keen on it---my sensitivity. It doesn't take much to bring tears to my eyes. The other night I was watching the baseball movie, The Rookie. It's the story a teacher who was in his late 30's who was signed to play baseball with the Texas Rangers. I don't recall the instance in the film but there was one scene causing my eyes to water. I suspect it had to do with a memory from my past life on the diamond.

The Queen once told me when she fell for me. We were driving down a street in Ames, Iowa. I saw a dog on the curb, parked my car, and went to it. It was still breathing so I secured a cardboard box and we took it to a vet.

I read a horrendous story out of Kentucky this past week. A man(I use that word loosely) got a hold of four of his neighbor's dogs, killed and skinned them then made a coat for himself. The outrage that sprang though my body was limitless. Can one only imagine what kind of person could do this?

In 1968 I took my first coaching/teaching job in New Hartford, Iowa. It was a village of 610 people. The principal suggested I stop over to the home of Elsie Rassmusson. She was an 88 year old woman and would take in a boarder for $20 a month. She lived a block from the school. As I approached her home I saw her in the back yard. The woman was yielding a hatchet and a baby kitten was on a tree stump waiting for the ax to fall on it's neck. It was then I saw three other headless kitties lying on the ground. Elsie, when she saw me said, "If I'd known I was going to have company I would have put 'em all in a gunny sack and throw them in the Cedar River".

So, what does this all have to do with anything? Isn't it horrible how people mistreat animals? It is so offensive to me and I'm certain to thousands of others. When these events occur there is an outcry throughout the land. I wonder why when a device is used to snip the spinal cord of a baby or a tool is jammed into their skull there isn't the same outcry. It seems illogical to me. It seems barbaric. It is in my mind beyond the pale.

And, if you read this blog, you know my number one reason for voting is pro-life. If a Democrat came along running for the highest office in the land I'd give that person consideration but it isn't going to happen in my lifetime and that's a shame.
