Humbug!

Every day from now on in until December 26 there will be some story about how this school system or that city council determined there will be no reference to Christ, Santa Claus or St. Nick. It's an every day thing. A huge ruckus will be raised, then some school administrator yokel will be trotted out in front of cameras to either back track on a position or make an apology. I saw it on "The Bumbler Show", affectionately know as Bill O'Reilly two nights ago. The Ft. Worth School District stated there would be no reference to Santa so as to not offend others who don't follow the practice and then had an assistant principal make a clarifying statement pertaining to the matter. There must have been a lot of grief raining down on the district because the next day said administrator made another press briefing backtracking on the original dictum BUT this time he was wearing a Santa Claus cap. Ho-Ho-Ho! One can imagine the jokes being made about this boob by the students---forever. This is why they make yearbooks.
There was a story in last week's news concerning a substitute teacher complaining about Christmas pageant so it was cancelled. The SUB felt the school wasn't being sensitive to the feelings of others who don't believe. Let me tell you. If I was a kid who was an atheist a hundred times over I'd fake Christmas at school in the hopes of getting a crummy two cent candy cane.
There might be a reason why it's so difficult for me to get up mentally for Christmas. Maybe it's the fear of being 'put down' when I should be, according to curmudgeons, more politically correct.
Lizzie and I were lying in bed last night. I said, "Are you awake"? She responded in the affirmative. Then I said, "You know what's sad about this Christmas? It's the last time 7 year old Oscar and Eve, our grandchildren, will believe in Santa Claus". Time is so short to enjoy the good things. Why do so few have to ruin the tradition and joy for the majority?
