Chiefs Fans: Save Your Newspapers

I actually watched the second quarter of last nights Super Bowl. Her Majesty was looking at a segment on Sixty Minutes so when it was over I switched over to Fox. San Francisco ran roughshod over the Chiefs so I just knew it was 'game over' and went to bed.

Around 9:30 I was on my smart phone an flipped to ESPN online and saw the final minute of play; a Chiefs victory. My reason for hoping for the win was that my son lives in a KC burb. Plus, we can now blame Pelosi for the 49'ers loss or something like that.

This morning I contacted my son and two high school buddies from Kansas City and told them to buy a copy of the KC Star and put it in a safe place to keep it pristine.

Many years ago another friend of mine from Boone, Iowa was traveling through Cincinnati when the Reds won a World Series. He knew I loved baseball and brought home a copy of the Cincinnati Enquirer as a gift for me. I put it away for safekeeping then when we moved to Ohio in '89 I brought it with me.

Fast forward to 2006. I was looking to buy a pick up truck from a man who lived in Springfield, Ohio located by car an hour north of The Queen City. We dickered on price for two weeks. He wanted $7,500. I was firm on $7,000. I was ready to walk away when we started talking about our love for baseball. He was a very huge Redlegs fan. I happened to bring up my newspaper. He told me he'd knock off the $500 if I gave him the newspaper. It was a done deal.

The moral of the story is keep everything even if it drives your wife nuts.
