This blog will elicit more commentary than any political piece I could muster. It's because sports is the most important thing in the world or so were led to believe.
I always watch the NCAA bracket show to see which college teams get in the Big Dance. This year I can honestly write that "I don't care". Not one Iowa team got in. It's difficult when three of your state schools are under .500 for a winning percentage.
The Big Ten got, what, seven schools in. Michigan State? That's a joke. Penn State? Same thing. Michigan? Another joke. There are a slug of mid-major schools that get jobbed each year. If one doesn't think a mid-major should receive strong consideration then you've never heard of Butler.
The University of Colorado, opinion only, was robbed. The Big 12-----ditto. They deserved more than five teams.
The moral of the story is this. If you want preferential treatment for your conference and school have your athletic director head the selection committee. It worked for the Big Ten having seven schools in the dance. Who is the head of the committee? Why it's Gene Smith from Ohio State.
If you are clueless when you see Big 10, Big 12, NCAA, mid-major etc., don't worry about it. It's not that important. If you do care, isn't Jimmer Fredette a cool name?
