I try to keep track of people and events filling my day. The observations aren't pre-planned. They happen randomly------seemingly ever day. I've always thought I should carry a notebook around to write these things down so I don't forget one tiny tidbit.
As an example, yesterday I had an appointment to meet a doctor at Mt. Carmel East Hospital for pre-tests for my upcoming hip replacement. This wasn't a big deal but after these meetings concluded my head was spinning. A visit to the hospital equipment department was next up. A hip replacement requires rental on walkers, canes, toilet seats that give you the impression you're standing to do the job. Our bed at home is 32" high off the floor. I asked if that would be high enough for me so I wouldn't have to rent a hospital bed. The woman told me I'd have to go down to the physical therapy department and ask.
I approached the lady behind the counter and then asked me question. Her response was, "You'll have to set up an appointment to find out" Ladies and gentleman, I have an advantage over others that, at this point in time comes in handy. I am a curmudgeon, a no nonsense curmudgeon. And it's not like Mt. Carmel is in my backyard. It's a 45 minute drive. The long story short is I received my answer and a hospital bed is unnecessary.
I stopped in at Tim Horton's for a cup of joe this morning. My apparel was an Iowa Hawkeye sweatshirt with the Hawkeye logo on the front. A customer in front of me told me she was originally from Iowa so we chit chatted for awhile. There seem to be a lot of Hawkeyes in Columbus; don't know why. She grew up in Osage. It's one of the few communities I've never visited. I did know it was located in the eastern part of the State, close to where The Field of Dreams was filmed.
Anyway, as I paid for my coffee the lady behind the counter told me how much she liked my sweatshirt and wished she had one. So I said, "Are you from Iowa". Her response was, "No, I'm from Kentucky". I didn't even want to go there so I left.
Do you have a CPAP machine? I do but haven't used it for five months. Oh, it's not that I don't want to it's just that a small plastic mouthpiece on it broke. I've been to three different government run companies, twice, to get it replaced. Folks, it's called the run around. Yesterday, I told myself something I should have said five months ago, "Screw it". If I die maybe Her Majesty can file a lawsuit. I'd like nothing better than the government pay me money I've already given them.
Yesterday, a woman told me she could definitely tell I was not PC. I gave her a hug.
